What is a cheap and easy to use online site for trading stocks?

I’m looking to get into playing the stock market some and was leaning toward an online site rather than a stock broker. Anyone have experience in online stocks and know which sites are cheap and easy?

Good move – get in while stocks are cheap!

It took me a while to figure out which broker to go with, but ultimately, I’m not a HUGE trader (and still a beginner) and I wanted something inexpensive and easy. Plus the online broker needed to have a low minimum $500 requirement. I went with Scottrade.
I’m very satisfied with their customer service – phone calls, emails, letters – making sure everything is OK and I’m comfortable with their system. And their system is as basic as you want it to be.

They certainly haven’t nickel and dimed me. Rather, they keep offering free trades and I’ve not encountered any additional fees.

Plus it’s easy to score free trades with them all the time by referring people. It’s normally only $7 a trade but they are running a promo until the end of October – I refer you, and we both get 7 free trades. That’s a perfect way to get up and started.
